Episode One List: Black Blood, Bulging Biceps and Bare Butts

Seven things:

1. Troy: Fall of a City was not written by Homer. He wrote The Iliad. This? Is not that. (Yay.)

2. Paris is Australian. Helen is German. Menelaus is Irish. Zeus is Nigerian. Achilles is English-African-American. Aphrodite is South African. The cast is unfairly naturally beautiful.

3 Wondering just who's bums, boobs and
biceps you're ogling? Go over to the BBC page and take a peak at the cast list/actor bios.   This first episode? Had so much information, yes? We meet at least a dozen characters, including in some cases, their back stories and their back ends. Ahem. That cast list is helpful in putting a name and face to those pects and other parts.

4. Paris is the focus of this episode. From his birth (kudos to Hecuba for not dying of an infection after that harrowing delivery; some strong immune system) to his "I can pee anywhere" lifestyle, to being re-united with his royal birth family, to his diplomatic assignment in Sparta as Prince Alexander. Twenty years in 30 minutes. Whiplash pacing. We meet the Greeks in the second half hour, where things slow down. Paris chats up the King, ogles the Queen, then manages, in no time at all (a week?), to sweep Helen off her feet, stuff her into a box, then drop her onto a boat.

With that? The stage is set. Let the story-telling begin...
Go git yer wife, Menelaus.

5.  Re: Paris and Helen. WHAT? She's attracted to him? For realz? Absolutely missed seeing any chemistry or fireworks between them. Also. Why was she so desperate to escape? Her BFF's are close-by. As is her daughter. Her pet birds, including The Ostrich, even live in the palace with her. Plus. Her hubs? Menelaus? Besides being a bit of a cross-dresser, he's defo a catch. Respectful, gentle, considerate, proud. Those arms. That hug. Those eyes. That smile. What 'xactly is your problem, woman?

I'm thinking, maybe she left because she wanted more. More adventure. More challenges. More thrills. She wasn't being mistreated, she was just bored.  And afraid of becoming boring?

If this really is The Greatest Love Story of All Time, then I better see some breath-catching, epic-sized sizzling sparks fly between these two soon; a bloody ten year war is the consequence of their fling after all...

6 Bromances! Both Menelaus and Paris have big brothers. Menelaus is married to the Most Beautiful Woman in the World thanks to his his bruv, Agamemnon, a skilled warrior. And Paris is still breathing because his older bro, Hector, didn't kill him when they first met. Ahhh, the dynamics. Intrigued to see how these relationships develop or disintegrate.

7. The scenery is vast and breathtaking. The sets are exquisitely detailed. The costumes are stunning and creative. The story is timeless and riveting and we are in for a helluva ride. Buckle up. (Reviewers who've seen Episode Two are generous with their praise. I believe them.)

Two more days til episode two.

Roll on Feb 24.
